Technology, telecomm, and digital media are all part of an extensive array of the old transitioning into the new. Rich Nespola says it is an evolutionary processes of transitioning through voice and next generation communication. The essential strategy will require new execution models—and new relationships, as no company can exist as an island in this emerging ecosystem.

Nespola describes how the ecosystem has currently evolved to where the traditional telecommunications marketplace around voice focused on various tools has migrated to various attributes or traits. These traits and attributes are transforming to the extent that relationships are focusing around one particular device. And that device change agent, a "seismic event," is the proliferation of the smart phone.

When starting out for the day, you grab your wallet, your car keys, and your phone. Nespola says that today two of those things are irrelevant. The smart phone has developed into an app that is a Swiss Army knife that contains unique solutions to meet marketplace demands. And the proliferation of smart phone apps presents opportunities for growth.

It is not just the device itself, but the new innovative models for the innovation cycle that allow the management of apps the size of the marketplace. Convergence is the key to success, says Nespola, and in this talk he describes practical examples of how this can be done.
